FLYERS: An Early Intervention Unit

Flyers is an early intervention program which aims at providing intensive therapeutic & educational services. It was started in Feb 2012 to help infants and toddlers between the ages of 3 to 12 years who have developmental delays or are at risk for such delays, other intellectual disabilities & autism spectrum disorder.

The goal of the program is to help children as soon as possible, so that they can reach their full potential. Getting help early can make a big difference in a child’s life. Parental training and counseling is an integral part of the program.

This program works as a mediator between the child & his environment. It helps him experience organize, understand & react better to the information received from the world around. Through this mediation he learns to develop a meaningful relationship with people & objects around & acquires various necessary communication skills. The program focuses on the child & the family together & the family remains an integral part of the program.

There are 29 children in Flyers with one special educator & a caretaker devoted to them in an air-conditioned classroom. An Occupational Therapist & a Speech Therapist from the Diagnostic & Counseling Clinic also tend to the Unit.
